Questions
Will the B&W Fifth Wheel to Gooseneck Adapter void my trailer's frame warranty?
The B&W Fifth Wheel to Gooseneck Adapter has been extensively tested and engineered to provide a smooth, stable ride that helps reduce stress on both the truck and trailer. Use of the adapter should not void your trailer's frame warranty.
What RVs are compatible with the B&W Fifth Wheel to Gooseneck Adapter?
The Standard version will fit Lippert 1621, 1621HD, 1116*, and 1716* pin box mounting plates, and the Rhino version will fit Lippert Rhino mounting plates.
*Note: 1116 and 1716 models will require the shim plate kit (P/N RVXA3140) to account for the 12-1/2" pin box mounting plate spacing.
How do I know which pin box mounting plates are on my RV?
How do I decide which pin weight to choose?
Typically, the smaller pin weight model will provide a better ride and will be the best choice in most cases up to a 3,500 lb pin weight. Above that we would recommend the larger pin weight.
Does it require any maintenance?
The built-in SumoSpring® suspension is completely maintenance-free. No airbags to inflate, finicky components to adjust, or break-in period required. That said, just like every hitch or piece of outdoor equipment, your adapter does require some minimal maintenance to keep it working like new for years to come.
Before every trip: Inspect all bolted connections. Grease the gooseneck ball as needed.
Every 2,500 miles: Grease the four articulating joints through the angled grease fittings until you can see a small amount of grease come out from the end of the joints.
Annually: Grease the coupler through the straight grease fitting. Rotate the latch handle several times to distribute the grease. Return the latch handle to the "Couple/Tow" position.
What is a SumoSpring®?
A SumoSpring® is a durable microcellular polyurethane spring designed to absorb road shock and reduce harsh movement while towing. Originally developed by SuperSprings International for the commercial trucking and suspension industry, SumoSprings® were created to help support heavy loads, improve ride quality, and reduce vibration on working vehicles.
In our Fifth Wheel to Gooseneck Adapter, we integrated the SumoSpring® to help absorb bumps, chucking, and vibration transferred between the truck and trailer. Combined with the adapter's dual-axis cushioned design, it helps create a more controlled, comfortable towing experience — especially on rough roads and during stop-and-go travel.
Unlike rubber springs or air bags, SumoSprings® are maintenance-free and always working to cushion impacts and smooth out the ride without requiring air pressure, compressors, or adjustments.
How does the SumoSpring® perform in freezing weather?
The B&W Fifth Wheel to Gooseneck Adapter uses a custom SumoSpring® that has been formulated for superior cushioning and damping over a wide range of temperatures. We have performed extensive freezing weather testing with the adapter, and the SumoSpring® performs well at temperatures as low as -20° F.
Will it work in a truck bed with a recessed box?
Yes, in most cases. The ball must be approximately 5.5" away from any obstruction to maintain adequate coupler clearance.
Will using the B&W Fifth Wheel to Gooseneck Adapter provide adequate bed clearance?
Yes, a typical installation will provide anywhere from 6" to 10" of bed clearance.
