Asked
Questions
I have a MultiPro/MultiFlex Tailgate, which Tow & Stow do I need?
The MultiPro (GMC) and MultiFlex (Chevy) tailgates are versatile, multi-function tailgates available on select GM trucks. They offer a few handy features, including a fold-down inner step. But here’s the catch: when the step is lowered, it can come into contact with a standard ball mount—causing costly damage to your tailgate.
That’s why we created the MultiPro/MultiFlex Tow & Stow. Engineered with machined cutouts in the vertical adjustment block, this specialty Tow & Stow offers added clearance when stowed. Meaning you can lower your tailgate’s inner step without worrying about dents, dings, or costly repairs.
Please note that Standard Tow & Stows are not compatible with the specialty tailgates. Be sure to select 'GM MultiPro/MultiFlex' when choosing your Tow & Stow to see the available options.
How do I know which Tow & Stow adjustable drop hitch I should purchase?
For most vehicles, the 3" drop is the appropriate Tow & Stow hitch. However, if you have a pickup truck with oversized tires, a lift kit, or a trailer that is not at the same relative height as your receiver, you may need a 5", 7", or 9" drop hitch. The following diagram depicts how to calculate what is commonly referred to as 'drop.'
What maintenance is recommended for the Tow & Stow adjustable ball mount?
Apply white lithium grease to all three Tow & Stow stainless steel pins. Keep the pins clean and lubricated to prevent seizing.
What is a Dual Ball Pintle Hitch and when should I use it?
The Dual Ball Pintle Hitch combines the versatility of a pintle hook with the convenience of a ball mount. It’s designed for heavy-duty towing where you may need to switch between a standard trailer coupler and a lunette ring, making it ideal for work trucks, construction, agriculture, or anyone hauling a mix of equipment.
The pins on my Tow & Stow have frozen in place. How can I prevent this?
The best way to prevent pins from seizing in place is to keep them clean and regularly apply a thin coating of white lithium grease. Keep in mind that metal parts in contact with each other and exposed to the elements can eventually corrode and rust. Regular maintenance is required.
I see there are two holes in the Tow & Stow shank. How do I know which one to use?
The pin hole location on different makes of receivers can vary. The two holes in the Tow & Stow shank offer some adaptability. Under normal circumstances, it’s best to have the shank slid as far into the receiver as possible, both from a strength standpoint and because it makes theft of the hitch assembly more difficult, providing a locking pin is used in the receiver and shank.
What towing capacities are available with the Dual Ball Pintle Hitch?
Built from high-strength steel and tested to meet SAE J684 standards, the Dual Ball Pintle hitch is made for serious towing. Depending on your receiver size, it’s rated up to 16,000 lbs. GTW (2" shank, 2-5/16" ball) or 21,000 lbs. GTW (2.5" shank, 2-5/16" ball), with corresponding VTW of 1,600 lbs. and 2,100 lbs. The 2" ball is rated for 10,000 lbs. GTW and 1,000 lbs. VTW on both shank sizes.
The pintle function is designed for use only with the 2-5/16" ball.
Always confirm your vehicle’s towing capacity before use.
Can I use a sway-bar with the Tow & Stow?
No. Sway-bar systems, along with weight distribution systems, utilize specialized attachment pieces to connect to the hitch receiver that are not compatible with the Tow & Stow.
The pins on my Tow & Stow were lost/stolen. How do I go about getting new ones?
Replacement pins and clips can be purchased through a dealer or ordered through B&W.
Does the Dual Ball Pintle Hitch fit my truck?
Yes—our hitches are available in 2" and 2.5" shank sizes to fit most heavy-duty receiver hitches. Each model is adjustable for height, so you can level your trailer with your truck. Be sure to select the correct shank size for your receiver to ensure a safe and secure connection.
How do I determine Vertical Tow Weight (VTW)?
Put the back tires of your vehicle on a scale with your trailer fully loaded and unloaded. Then, subtract your empty load from your full load to get your vertical tongue weight.
